H Beardsley parts ways with Palletforce after more than ten years

Palletforce founder member H Beardsley has parted ways with the network and joined rival Palletline.

MD James MacLachlan whose grandfather established the firm in the 1950s said “Palletforce has been a very good network for us and this was not an overnight decision”.

“However, an opportunity to move to Palletline came up [after Derby-based William West gave its notice] and we believe membership of the network is in line with how we see our business developing during the next few years,” he told Commercialmotor.com.

H Beardsley, which started making deliveries for Palletline a week ago today, has its mainstay in contract distribution serving customers in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and packaging sectors.

The Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire-based business has around 40,000ft² of warehousing and an O-licence to run 18 vehicles and 25 trailers.

MacLachlan said that with little movement left in regards price within the industry, service was increasingly the concern of customers. He said his business was increasingly adopting a partnership approach advising clients and potential clients, moving away from the traditional hire and reward mindset.

“As an industry we are very good at responding but my forging closer relationships you are in a much better position to be able to anticipate what’s coming and be better prepared,” he said.

The firm is covering the majority of the NG postcode for Palletline, as well as some of DE.

Palletforce’s new members

Both Nelson Distribution and Lockwood Haulage have joined Palletforce to plug the gap.

Simon Nelson, MD at the Belper company, said that although Nelson Distribution was consistently profitable, it was not achieving the growth it wanted.

“To provide a cohesive solution for our customers we really needed to join a pallet network,” he said. “We changed our strategy to becoming a little more mainstream. We still do the niche stuff but we are also bringing in large palletized accounts.”

It now provides coverage for the NG postcode area, and Nelson said the move would enable it to bring in new accounts, as well as help its customer base within the automotive and clothing sectors.

Wayne Evans, transport director  at Ambergate-based Lockwood Haulage, said: “Joining Palletforce was a great opportunity and one we simply could not say ‘no’ to.

“Traditionally we’ve perhaps been seen to offer full and part load service but we are increasingly seeing demand for deliveries across the whole range of consignments size starting from single pallet through to full loads.

“Becoming part of Palletforce, with its innovative technology and strong brand, will strengthen our services in this area,” Evans said.
