Cranswick Country Foods’ drivers will not take industrial action if terms are agreed

LGV drivers at Cranswick Country Foods’ Hull site have said they are happy to continue without representation from URTU, despite expressing concerns with their current lack of union representation.

Drivers at the own-account operator voted in favour of industrial action in a ballot that ended last week (31 May), but at a meeting on 2 June, drivers told the union that Cranswick’s attitude towards them had changed since concerns first arose.

The drivers said they were happy for URTU not to intervene as long as they were satisfied with the result of negotiations over pay and terms and conditions and that Cranswick continues to negotiate with elected driver representatives.

URTU regional officer Graham Bird said: “It should be borne in mind that this whole situation was created because the drivers were of the opinion that their views were being ignored and that the company was simply dictating to them without any sort of meaningful discussion.

“I am told that the discussions that have taken place recently have addressed the dissatisfaction that had crept in over the past twelve months or so and that they, once again, feel they are an important and valued part of a very successful company,” he added.
