Nearly 250 trucks were stopped for offences such as speeding, not wearing a seatbelt and being overweight in a six day operation across the Midlands’ trunk road network.

A total of 243 LGV drivers were stopped in the operation, which ended yesterday (14 May), and was led by Leicestershire Police and involved six other police forces.

The drivers were stopped by an unmarked truck in a crackdown across the M1, M6, A14 and A1 and were dealt with by police officers in nearby motorway service areas or on the hard shoulder.

According to Leicestershire Police, 157 of the drivers were not wearing seatbelts, 42 were using mobile phones and one was caught speeding.

The remaining 43 offenders were stopped for their vehicles being overweight or not being in proper control of their vehicle.
