Family firm R Sinclair Transport has paid tribute to founder Ron Sinclair who has died after a short illness.

Sinclair, 86, was active in the Eversham-based business that bore his name to the end, passing away after a short battle with pancreatic cancer on 1 March.

He was remembered at a ceremony held at St Mary and St Egwin Roman Catholic Church last month, attended by more than 400 people.

The haulage firm, which he founded in 1947 at the age of 21, today runs a fleet of 25 Daf trucks, all  XF105s at 44-tonnes predominately moving packaging materials. It also has 100,000ft² of warehousing.

He is survived by wife Doreen, four sons and one daughter, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.Ron Sinclair

Son Stephen Sinclair said: “Ron was in the office every day taking an active role in the overall strategy and financial planning of the company. Other long-standing hauliers in the area regularly called in and would spend hours with him in his office.

“He enjoyed walking around the site and picking up the odd piece of litter and checking tyres as he passed any of the motors that happened to be stood in the yard.”
