Ford has revealed the first glimpse of its next new commercial vehicle by unveiling a people carrier version of the forthcoming Courier van at the Geneva motor show.

The Tourneo Courier follows on from the launch of the nine-seat Tourneo Custom (based on the Transit Custom van) and the five- or seven-seat Tourneo Connect which uses the new Transit Connect platform.

The arrival of the Tourneo Courier is the penultimate addition to Ford’s new model line-up which will be completed at the CV Show in April when a panel van version of the Courier is unveiled.

Based on the company’s new small-car platform, the Tourneo Courier is a compact people carrier measuring 4.16m, capable of transporting up to five people, but the CV version will forgo the rear seats, while retaining the sliding rear doors, to provide a useable loadspace.

Styling is similar to the rest of the revamped Ford range, while on the inside, the Courier’s cab features a “mega-centre” console said to be capable of storing A4 documents and small laptops. Additional storage is provided for overhead and with a drawer under the driver’s seat.

Power for the Tourneo Courier will come from two Duratorq TDCi diesel engines, a 1.5-litre  producing 74hp and a 1.6-litre generating 94hp, and a 1-litre EcoBoost petrol engine producing 99hp. The new model will be manufactured at the Kocaeli plant in Turkey, and will be launched in spring 2014.
