Roads must be kept clear to avoid "snow-chaos", says RHA

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has said that “snow-chaos” must be averted this weekend and early next week, by ensuring that roads are kept clear.

With wintery weather forecast in the next few days, the RHA hopes that the Highways Agency has learnt from previous winters and motorways and major roads are kept clear.

RHA spokeswoman Kate Gibbs said: “With snow forecast for many areas of the country towards the end of the weekend and into the beginning of next week, we hope that the Highways Agency will be sending its gritting trucks out in force.”

The RHA said the gritting of side roads leading to delivery points and industrial sites is just as important for hauliers.

“We are used to bad weather here in the UK but hopefully, if the forward planning works, the chances of the country coming to a halt as a result of snow should decrease,” Gibbs added.
