Daf: place Euro-5 orders now

Daf has warned that customers looking to place orders for Euro-5 trucks should do so now or face missing out in 2013.

Ray Ashworth, MD of Daf Trucks, told journalists at the annual Daf pre-Christmas press briefing in London this week that operators should consider pulling orders forward.

He added that Daf’s challenge was to convince customers that decisions on whether to buy Euro-5 rather than Euro-6, is one that needs to be taken in the next few weeks not at the end of 2013 (when Euro-6 compliance effectively becomes mandatory for all newly registered trucks).

When it comes to ordering Euro-5 units he said: “You really need to start thinking about it now- if you don’t then you’re going to miss the boat. We have got some serious challenges next year moving from Euro-5 to Euro-6,” he added.

However Ashworth insisted that the ‘truck economy’ was strong – with Daf retaining a 30% market share in the UK – and that economic conditions of investment, growth and stability were not “the ingredients for recession”.

He said that the truck market for units six tonnes and above would close with 38,500 registrations in 2012, up from 37,400 in 2011; the forecast for 2013 is 42,000 registrations.

Ashworth also confirmed that the new CF and new LF would make an appearance at the CV Show in Birmingham in April next year.
