Views wanted on new cycle superhighway

Transport for London (TfL) has launched a consultation on plans for a new cycle superhighway from New Cross Gate to Victoria that would see the greatest use of mandatory cycle lanes yet in the capital.

In a statement TfL said: “Barclays Cycle Superhighway Route 5 will help to increase the number of cycle-only lanes in the capital and is another example of the mayor’s pledge to make London a cycle-friendly city.”

Other features of the 5.8 mile route include: preventing turns for cars and lorries at some locations, to help reduce conflict with cyclists; extending the 20mph driving limit in New Cross; and cycle safety checks being made available along the routes to improve cycle maintenance.

The latest consultation comes after plans for a ‘cycle super corridor’, linking up east and west London caused hauliers’ representatives in the capital to express concerns.
