CV Show 2011: In the Mix

Mix Telematics, one of the longest established telematics specialists, is among those exhibiting at the Commercial Vehicle Show, which runs at Birmingham NEC from 12-14 April.

The firm made its first vehicle telematics system in 1985 – before most people had a computer – and it has been a long-standing exhibitor at the CV Show.

Commercial manager Alan Johnson says: “It helps connect us with the key people in the industry and allows us to show them how we can help them.”

Johnson says that one of the ways telematics has changed recently is that many hauliers have realised that it is not just for the very large fleets.

He says: “We think we can help a relatively small fleet of around 20 vehicles to make a fuel saving of up to 15%.”

Unlike the early versions of telematics, which essentially just told you where your vehicles were, modern systems can convey real time information to the driver in the cab, helping to improve driving instantaneously.

“We are looking forward to the show in 2011. It should be a great success,” says Johnson, speaking from the firm’s Birmingham base.
