Cartwright ready to tackle demands of EU Whole Vehicle Type

  • 01 October 2012
  • By Chris Druce

With European Commission Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA) set to become law from 29 October 2012, Cartwright Group director Steven Cartwright said the company is under pressure to ensure customers can still get the products they want and need.

“Operators want what trailers they want more than ever, we have to go down the mass-production route for ECWVTA to meet customers demands even though they want something bespoke. We have such a varied range and we have to do a lot of WVTA testing because we can’t lose the flexibility to build the one-off,” he said.

Even though ECWVTA has been looming large on the horizon for a while, operators are only concerned about it if it forces significant changes to specification on products.

“If an operator can’t have something they will kick up a fuss and if we can’t deliver they will go somewhere else. So, we have to do more testing and make sure we can offer what they want,” he said.
