French fines for having no breatherlyser in your cab from November

International hauliers and drivers have been reminded that the French authorities will begin imposing fines on anyone found not to be carrying breathlysers in their cabs from November.

The law changed in July, requiring that all motorists, including freight drivers, travelling through France carry at least one government approved breathalyser.

However, a period of grace will come to an end in a matter of weeks, and anyone found not to be carrying one from 1 November will face an €11 (£8.70) fine.

A recent Institute of Advanced Motorists survey found that 50% of drivers were unaware of the change in law.

Breathalyser producer AlcoSense has warned that only kits with the blue NF logo, showing that they conform to the French standards, will be accepted by the Gendarmerie.

Disposable kits can be bought for around £2.
