A foreign lorry driver will face Birmingham magistrates today (9 July) after driving for more than 10 minutes down the M6 the wrong way.

The 50-year-old Hungarian driver was detained by Central Motorway Police officers near to junction 10 at around 10.40pm last night (8 July) after several emergency calls were received regarding a lorry driving southbound on the northbound carriageway.

The lorry had joined the motorway at junction 10A, with the first call being received at 10.24pm.

The driver was stopped near junction 10, in Walsall, and subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle whilst under the influence of alcohol. He was later charged with both offences and will appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court this morning.
