A Northern Ireland tipper truck operator has been fined £1,050 for running overweight and with defective tyres.

In a Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) prosecution, Belfast Magistrates’ Court was told how in August 2011, officers stopped the overloaded four axle tipper lorry, operated by Sperrin Building Services from Cookstown, County Tyrone, and prevented the vehicle continuing on its journey until the company replaced all the defective tyres.

Sperrin Building Services was fined £400 for being overweight on the gross vehicle weight by 3,030 kgs (9.4%) and £200 for being 2,070 kgs (10.9%) overweight on the combination of two closely spaced axles.

It was also fined £75 for each of the six counts of defective tyres. The charges were brought under the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (NI) 1999.
