A woman narrowly escaped death when a Norbert Dentressangle truck toppled over onto her car, pushing the roof down into the passenger compartment.

She had been driving her Nissan Micra in the inside lane on the A50 dual carriageway Bypass Road, near Uttoxeter, at about 8.30am on 26 June, when the the Norbert Dentressangle lorry in the outside lane fell onto it.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman says: “The 20-year-old woman in the car told ambulance staff that she realised what was happening and managed to get her seatbelt off and roll onto her side in a foetal position.

“By the time the rapid response vehicle arrived she had managed to scramble out of the car via the passenger side.”
The woman suffered a hand injury while the man driving the lorry was uninjured.

Paul Dewey, director, Norbert Dentressangle road train division, says: “We are working closely with the authorities and will be carrying out our own internal investigations in order to determine the cause of the accident.

“In the meantime, we wish the injured driver a speedy recovery.”
