Abbey Logistics Group moves to Euro-5 with HSBC

Abbey Logistics Group is forging ahead with its environmental strategy after receiving a £5.5m funding boost from HSBC to buy cleaner vehicles.

The Bootle-based transport and logistics company says its growth plans, coupled with a rebranding exercise and a green agenda, meant it needed to replace some of its fleet with Euro-5 vehicles, in order to comply with London’s Low Emission Zone (LEZ).

Abbey financial controller Paul Jamieson says changes to the LEZ in January meant replacing 30 of the company’s Euro-3 vehicles.

“Part of the rebranding exercise is bringing equipment up to standards,” he says. “Our MD wants to reduce our carbon footprint, waste and mileage. Our strategy was set in place last year and it’s something we are striving towards. We have now got [environmental management accreditation] ISO 14001 and we are up for five awards for the environment this year.”

Abbey MD Steve Granite adds: “The equipment funding from HSBC will allow us to target future growth and expansion, while ensuring we are as energy-efficient as possible in the environment we operate in.”

The company’s growth plan includes increasing turnover to £27m in 2012.
