CV Show 2012: Ingimex saves weight

Telford-based light vehicle bodybuilder Ingimex has re-engineered its box body for 3.5-tonne GVW chassis cabs, taking out around 100kg of weight.

Shown at the CV Show on both Mercedes Sprinter and VW Crafter chassis, the weight of a 4.2m-long, 15 cubic metre example has been cut to 590kg, including an Ingimex-made aluminium rear shutter and aluminium sub-frame.

The body has no fewer than four rows of load-retention tracking, screwed to aluminium vertical ribs that are in turn bonded to the one-piece GRP/ply sidewalls.

Ingimex engineering director Jeremy Gallen says that much of the weight reduction is due to the introduction of a new steel rear frame, which has bolted joints instead of welded, as they used to be.
