East Lancashire Warehousing Company to be liquidated

Darwen-based East Lancashire Warehousing Company (ELW) is to be liquidated after it was placed in administration last year, following the loss of key contracts.

Joint administrators Paul Flint and Brian Green of KPMG were appointed by the firm in April 2011 and revealed they were seeking a buyer for the company’s assets.

The firm, which employed 65 staff, was moved into liquidation by the administrators on 19 October.

The warehousing and distribution business held an O-licence to run 60 vehicles and 90 trailers out of its Darwen office and 10 vehicles and 30 trailers out of its base in Accrington. A spokesman for the Office of the Traffic Commissioners revealed that ELW’s O-licence was revoked on 18 October.

In April 2011, administrator Paul Flint told CommercialMotor.com that the loss of major contracts forced the firm, which had been operating for more than 90 years, to close.

Liquidators at KPMG were unavailable to comment on whether ELW’s assets had been sold.
