Arrests made after dawn raids in connection with truck and freight thefts

Dawn raids across the country by officers investigating thefts of goods from HGVs and the vehicles themselves have led to five arrests.

Early morning search warrants were executed by around 120 officers on Tuesday 15 July at 13 addresses, including at a haulage yard near Dover.

Kent police said the move was the culmination of a 12-month investigation involving its force, plus Essex Serious Crime Directorate and the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit.

Five people were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to steal and remain in police custody. In addition, a number of phones and computers were also seized.

“These pre-planned warrants come as a result of a long-standing and complex investigation by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate into the theft of and theft from HGVs,” said investigating officer Detective Constable Jon Saxby.

“The haulage industry plays a significant role in the UK economy and these warrants across the country have taken place in one day but we hope the knock-on effects to the haulage industry will be far-reaching.”

Investigations are ongoing.
