Stephen Hammond axed in cabinet reshuffle

Transport minister Stephen Hammond has been axed in the latest government reshuffle.

The news comes just six months after Hammond took back responsibility for freight and logistics from Robert Goodwill in a previous DfT reshuffle.

A Downing Street spokesman told that details of who would be taking over the role would be announced later today.

At least a dozen other cabinet members have been affected in the prime minister’s reshuffle, including foreign secretary William Hague, who stepped down from his post but who will remain in the cabinet as leader of the commons.

Hammond had held the post of Parliamentary Under Secretary for Transport since September 2012.

You can follow the live announcements of new cabinet members on David Cameron’s Twitter feed @David_Cameron, which has so far revealed Phillip Hammond as the new foreign secretary and Michael Gove as commons chief whip.
