Cartwright plans to open more UK rental sites

The rental arm of the Cartwright Group is looking to open more sites across the UK, following the launch of a site in Glasgow earlier this year.

Group MD Mark Cartwright said the location had brought in new rental business as well as new-build business, simply by the Altrincham-based trailer manufacturing business having a presence in the city. “It is opening doors that in the past had been a little stiff,” he said.

Rental director Phil Rodman said Cartwright Rental is still looking for potential premises in the Home Counties, Yorkshire and in the north-east of Scotland. “If we can open a site in Yorkshire, along the M62 corridor, we can then look towards Hull, and expand the skeletal and flatbed hire trailers,” he said.

He also revealed that the rental arm turned over more than £20m in the 2013/14 financial year, a double-digit growth on the previous year. Rodman added: “We are putting 700 new trailers onto the rental fleet every year and washing the older stuff out. That means the average age of the fleet is coming down.”

The firm has invested £10m in new temperature-controlled trailers for the rental fleet in past four years. More operators are requesting trailers with EN 124642 L and XL curtains.

“We have 1,000 on rental and leased out with that specification, and we are looking to expand that,” he added.
