Two shifts at Dennison to meet demand

Dennison Trailers is to introduce a second shift on its production line to reduce lead times to customers.

Speaking at the company’s 50th anniversary celebrations, held at Naas, Co Kildare, in Ireland last month, MD James Dennison said a seven-month lead time is too long.

“It is the same for every manufacturer at the moment but anything beyond 16 weeks and people lose interest,” he said.
Doubling the annual investment allowance against corporation tax to £500,000, announced in the Budget in March 2014, has helped operators replace ageing trailers.

“A lot of operators brought forward their purchases for Euro-5 trucks into 2013 and held back on trailers. The government’s tax break on capital expenditure changed that and they are now ordering new trailers.

“Before people put off replacing trailers, but an older trailer becomes uneconomical because it needs more maintenance,” he explained.

  • Dennison Trailers brought customers to Naas to celebrate 50 years in manufacturing. Despite a brief hiatus in the 70s when it stopped building trailers and built 250 trucks, the company has manufactured more than 43,000 trailers.
