Crewe infrastructure improvements granted £15.6m DfT funding

The Department for Transport (DfT) has revealed £15.6m in funding for infrastructure improvements in Crewe, which are hoped to improve access to business parks and reduce town centre congestion.

The Crewe Green Link Road scheme includes plans for a new bypass to the south-east of Crewe – a 1.1km dual carriageway linking the A500 Hough Shavington bypass with the A5020 Weston Gate roundabout.

The DfT hopes the scheme will reduce the number of HGVs trying to negotiate town centre roads. It will also improve access to the Grand Junction Retail Park and the Crewe Business Park.

Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: “The £15.6m we are putting into this project shows that we are serious about investing in the infrastructure the country needs to drive economic growth, both locally and nationally.”

The remainder of the £26.3m scheme will be funded by Cheshire East Council. Work will begin imminently with the road due to open in November 2015.
