Two men have been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of robbing from lorries parked around the M25.

A warrant has now been issued for a third man, who failed to appear for sentencing at Chelmsford Crown Court this week (Thursday 22 May).

The court heard how Tommy Clampin of Grays and Dave Steingold of Stifford, along with Richard Chapman, operated out of a Grays site and targeted HGVs parked at services stations around the orbital motorway using their own lorry.

Goods stolen between June and October 2012 by the men after cutting open the curtainsiders included perfume, trainers and cigarette papers.

After an eight-week trial, Clampin and Steingold were found guilty of conspiracy to steal from lorries and Chapman, from South Ockendon, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

An Essex police spokesman said it had issued a warrant for the arrest of Chapman. Three other men were found not guilty.
