Hauliers in the North East and South East received the most mechanical prohibitions last year, has discovered.

Operators in the North East received the highest number in the UK between 1 January and 31 December 2013, DVSA figures show. Of the 2,004 PG9s issued, 41% were immediate roadworthiness prohibitions, handed out for the most serious mechanical defects.

Operators in London and the South East were handed the second-highest total in 2013, with 2,003 prohibitions. However, immediate roadworthiness prohibitions accounted for 55% of the total number of prohibitions in the region – the highest in the country.

However, as a percentage of the total number of trucks registered in the traffic area, London and the South East comes out on top in terms of PG9s, albeit with just 4.7% of its vehicle parc issued with either an immediate, S-marked or delayed roadworthiness prohibition.
