ChassisCab acquires Daf dealership in Cambridge from Marshall Motor Group

Daf Trucks dealer ChassisCab has acquired the assets of Cambridge-based Marshall Daf from its parent company Marshall Motor Group.

The family-run ChassisCab business now operates four Daf Trucks dealerships across Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.

The Cambridge site is a six-bay workshop and an authorised testing facility (ATF) that the previous owners Marshall Motor Group invested Ј140,000 in (CM 7 November 2013). It is open two days a week, but ChassisCab is applying for a third day.

ChassisCab MD Robert Baxter said the company has leased the site from Marshall Motor Group, but that in the longer term it will relocate when the landlord redevelops the area.

He said: “The surrounding area has changed a lot during the time it has been there, and getting into Cambridge with an HGV is a difficult thing to do.

“We will look for a more suitable site around the A14 that is more accessible for passing traffic,” added Baxter.

“But that will not be in the next couple of years.”

Thirty-five staff transferred to ChassisCab, which now employs 145 people. The company started in 1982 as a chassis and cab repair business in Bury St Edmunds and became a parts and service satellite depot to Marshall Daf in 1986.

It became the main dealer for Daf in Ipswich in 1993 and acquired service dealership Universal Garage, Isleham, in 2006, which also has an ATF that is open five days a week.
