Shoreham plan for expansion

Shoreham Vehicle Auctions’ plans for expansion have to go hand-in-hand with infrastructure development and business growth, according to CV manager Tim Spencer.

He recently joined the company from Manheim (CM 13 March) and has been given a remit to expand the CV side of the business. His target is to double the volume of vehicles going under the hammer in three years. “Ultimately we would like to go to a weekly CV sale in a year’s time, it’s currently fortnightly with two car sales each week.

“But we have to go one step at a time and bring the vendors, the staff, and the development of the infrastructure together,” he said.

“There are enough vehicles, vendors and buyers in the market for Shoreham Vehicle Auctions to achieve its goals and targets.”

Spencer (pictured right) acknowledged that a primary concern is having enough space to cope with any expansion.

He said: “The [four-acre] site in Lancing, West Sussex, is well placed and there is a geographical benefit as vendors don’t want to move their assets longer distances.”

Alex Wright, MD of Shoreham Vehicle Auctions (pictured left), remained tight-lipped about its plans, but said: “We are looking at resolving our spatial issues, we have an expansion plan and a second site will come in time.”

Spencer said he is enjoying his new role and working within a territory with one site, rather than travelling to all four corners of the larger network as he did with his former employers.

“It’s back to face-to-face interaction with the buyers and sellers,” he said.
