Volvo launches truck of the future design competition

To celebrate the 200,000th UK-registered Volvo truck since the brand’s 1967 launch in this country, the manufacturer is giving aspiring truck designers the opportunity to design predict what the HGVs of 2050 will look like.

The Volvo Trucks: Truck of the Future 2050 competition asks entrants to predict what trucks will look like in the future, based on what they think the needs of society will be and the infrastructure used to move goods around.

Three winners will be invited to the manufacturer’s design team headquarters in Gothenburg, where their designs will be displayed.

Volvo Trucks MD Arne Knaben said: “The winning designs will demonstrate creative thinking that will help the Volvo truck driver and operator more than three decades from now, work productively, economically and safely with all other road users. We are very, very keen to encourage children, young adults and students to take part in what will be a fun competition.”

Entrants must submit their design for either a long-haul or regional distribution truck for the UK road transport industry, alongside a brief explanation of their reasoning behind the design’s features.

One winner will be selected from the following age ranges: up to 11 years old, 11- 18 years old, and over 18 years old.

Entries must be submitted to www.volvotrucks.co.uk/design, or emailed to marketingUK@volvo.com by Friday 3 October. See the Volvo Trucks UK Facebook page for more details.
