Staying compliant and safe: free seminars at Tip-ex 14 and Tank-ex 14

  • 19 May 2014
  • By Justin Stanton

Not only do Tip-ex 14 and Tank-ex 14 feature all the major suppliers in the tipper and tanker market under one roof, but they also provide the opportunity for operators to attend compelling sessions on:

  • transport law and maintaining compliance;
  • preventing tanker rollovers;
  • cycle safety;
  • and whole vehicle type approval.

Here’s the full programme:

Thurday 29 May
10am-11.30am: Keeping tippers and tankers compliant
What infringements do tipper and tanker operators make far too regularly? Who or what will the DVSA target next? What’s keeping the traffic commissioners awake at night? What common mistakes do operators make when appearing before TCs? Our expert speakers will provide the answers to these questions and more.
Speakers:

  • Kevin Rooney, North East Traffic Commissioner
  • Steve Brougham, DVSA area manager, and Dave Wood, enforcement policy manager
  • Nina Dhillon, senior associate, DWF LLP

Noon-12.45pm: Tanker rollovers no more
Despite modern trucks being fitted with an ever-increasing number of three-letter-abbreviation safety systems, the frequency of truck rollovers shows no sign of abating. How can these costly incidents be prevented?
Speakers:

  • Dean Jordan, director, CRYdel
  • Mark Toghill, OE trailer sales, Knorr-Bremse

3pm-4pm: Cycle safety: following London’s lead
If you think cycle safety is a London issue, you’re taking a dangerously short-term view. With the national standard for construction vehicles now live and more cities throughout the UK taking an interest, this is the right time to understand the key issues and the technology being used by some of the biggest fleets in the UK.
Speakers:

  • Glen Davies, freight development manager, Transport for London
  • Jerry McLaughlin, director, Mineral Products Association
  • Sean McGrae, senior manager – national transport, Lafarge Tarmac
  • Nick Elliott, national transport manager, Hope Construction Materials
  • Dominic Day, director, Day Aggregates
  • Andy Graves, product marketing manager – chassis, Dennis Eagle

2pm-3pm: Whole vehicle type approval – the impact on operators
Severe delays to new truck registrations could be seen from the end of October as the latest EC rules on vehicle type approval kick in, industry stakeholders have warned.
