Driver assaulted on North Yorkshire road

A female lorry driver was attacked and robbed at the roadside last week by two men, who flagged down her vehicle under the pretense it was damaged.

The incident took place in North Yorkshire on Thursday 8 March at 3.20pm on the B1248 between North Grimston and Wharram le Street, where the driver, a 40-year-old woman, was overtaken by a small white van, whose passenger indicated to her that something was wrong with her lorry.

She pulled over to examine her vehicle, by which point the white van had turned around in the road and made its way back to her lorry: one man got out of the van and assaulted her, while the other stole possessions from her cab.

The driver, who was travelling in a white cab pulling a red skip, was not seriously hurt in the incident.

Police are now investigating the event, including the possibility that the lorry had been followed for some time prior to the incident are appealing to anyone who saw the truck being tailed or saw the white van parked up along the route.

Call North Yorkshire Police on 101 if you have any information that can help the inquiry.
