Rochester-based R Swain Sons has acquired the business and assets of heavy plant haulier Hallett Silbermann for an undisclosed sum.

Silbermann, which is based in Hatfield and was formerly owned by Brent Group, is authorised to run up to 30 vehicles and 43 trailers on its O-licence.

All staff and assets have been transferred across to R Swain Sons as part of the deal and the company will continue to operate out of its sites in Hatfield and Birmingham.

The business will operate separately from R Swain Sons within its special projects division.

It will be headed up by Matthew Swain as MD and John Hugill, who has been at Hallett Silbermann for over 30 years, as operations director.

R Swain Sons MD Bob Swain said: “It was a company with a very good reputation, which will complement our already considerable special projects division.

“This acquisition fits in well with our strategy to grow the company and to offer our customers a one stop solution for all their transport requirements.”

Brent Group chief executive David Silbermann said: “This is an exiciting move forward for the Hallett Silbermann brand. We are very happy to pass our six decades of experience and good reputation onto Bob Swain and his team who have been going even longer than us.”

In 2009 R Swain acquired plant haulage specialists Charles Hewitt and HM Plant.
