Stobart Automotive avoids strike action after reaching agreement with drivers

Drivers at Stobart Automotive have ruled out strike action over pay and conditions, after reaching an agreement via union Unite with their employer.

Staff at the car transporter division of the newly-formed Eddie Stobart Logistics voted in favour of industrial action over issues regarding pay, terms and conditions in March.

Unite national officer Adrian Jones told that the union’s reasons for the dispute included drivers’ concerns about the company’s investment in its fleet, the use of subcontractors rather than Stobart Automotive drivers, and the lack of proper consultation with its employees.

However, the two parties came to an agreement last month, the terms of which have only just been revealed and included a 2% pay increase and improvements to employee benefits.

The agreement will also mean that all drivers carrying out work for the company will be specialist vehicle transporter drivers.

Unite will hold regular meetings with the firm going forward following Stobart Group’s partial divestment of the transport business.

“Part of the agreement includes making sure we are involved with the development of the company,” said Jones.
