Many roads in Yorkshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex and London will be closed during this year’s Tour de France, which takes place in July.

Stage one of the cycling event will begin in Leeds on Saturday 5 July, with many major roads through the city remaining closed (typically from 7am to 3pm, at the earliest). The route passes through Skipton, Grassington, Hawes, Leyburn and Ripon, and finishes in Harrogate. Most roads in Harrogate will remain closed for most of the day.

Road closures will also be in place for stage two, which takes place on Sunday 6 July and stretches from York to Sheffield. Roads in Harrogate will be closed again as the route passes through the area for the second day, and roads will also be closed in Huddersfield and Sheffield.

Stage three of the event, which stretches between Cambridge and London, will take place on Monday 7 July and will see roads closed in areas across Cambridgeshire, Essex and north-east and central London, including Braintree, Chelmsford and Epping Forest . It is due to begin at midday and will finish on the Mall at around 3.30pm.

For a full list of road closures, operators should go to Transport for London’s Tour de France website, or individual local councils’ websites.
