Mark Cartwright is new group MD at Cartwright

Mark Cartwright has been appointed as group managing director of Cartwright Group, less than a month after the resignation of former joint MDs John and Steven Cartwright. Peter Cartwright continues as chairman and Lisa Cartwright as a director on the new board.

On 10 March it was announced that both brothers, cousins to new MD Mark Cartwright, had left the business but swift action has been taken to give the Cheshire-based trailer and body manufacturer stability for the future.

Speaking after his appointment, Mark Cartwright said that he has briefed all 500 staff earlier that week to “establish the facts” and quash some of the rumours that had been circulating following the senior management changes.

“It was important for me to get from behind the desk and get amongst the troops,” he told in an exclusive interview. “And for me the reaction of the staff has been an overwhelming experience, just short of phenomenal really. That is testament to the structures of the business and the management team that is in place.”

Mark Cartwright also confirmed that reaction from customers to the news of the management change had been very positive and explained how the business would continue without its two former joint MDs: “We looked within the business and saw what talent and experience we had there. What we noticed very quickly was that we had a lot of talent. There is great deal of scope to expand their skill sets and the potential that they offer the business. There was also a fantastic desire to do so. That has been very well received and has proved to be quite effective. Obviously I have taken on some of those additional responsibilities and we continue to develop the people in the business.”

He said that he also wished both Steven and John Cartwright “every success for the future” and he thanked them for their contribution.

“For us it is a case that we see the brand as bigger than any one individual or individuals. We are proud of our 63 year pedigree and the business will go forward,” he said. “I can categorically confirm it is not for sale!”
