Police launch manhunt after truck driver knifed in lay-by

Police are hunting a knife attacker after a lorry driver was slashed in a Cambridgeshire lay-by.

The 45-year-old man needed hospital treatment after parking up on Sutton Road in Haddenham on 1 April at around 7.20am.

He was attacked from behind as he got out of his cab and suffered serious injuries, but has since been discharged from hospital.

Detectives say a van was seen pulling into the same layby between 7.15am and 7.30am and they want to speak to the occupants.

“Witnesses have described seeing three people inside the van and I am very keen to speak to them,” said Detective Sergeant Phill Richardson.

“I would like to stress they are not being treated as suspects, but may have been key witnesses to what happened.

The offender is described as being white, six foot, medium build and wearing dark clothing. it is thought he may have fled the scene in a vehicle.

DS Richardson said the lorry was distinctive and had the word “Savage” on the side. This is thought to be Savage Haulage, although the firm had not responded to Commercialmotor.com at publication to confirm this.

“We are keeping an open mind around this incident which is being treated as isolated,” he added.

Anyone with any information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
