Success for Manheim’s branded truck sale

Manheim’s branded truck sale at Leeds proved successful, with three-quarters of the trucks going under the hammer.

Royal Mail sold 75% of its trucks, while all the entries from The Co-operative Group, Greggs and Warburtons sold.

Ken Thompson, logistics service transport fleet manager for the Co-operative Group, felt that being part of the branded sale helped. “It increased some of my sale prices, but I feel it is more important to set your reserve prices at the right level,” he said.

James Davis, director of CVs at Manheim (pictured), said the vendors were pleased with the result. “The sale-day branding, coupled to pre-sale marketing and vehicle presentation in combination, pushed the standard of HGV auctions in the UK to a higher level,” he said.

In general, buyers at auction reported an improvement in export enquiries and activity and remain positive. “The lack of supply in the entire auction market, specifically of late-registered product, is causing many buyers to trip over each other to buy the right kit, which would sell several times over in auction,” he said.

The sale featured 121 trucks, and while online bidders outnumbered those in the hall two-to-one, the latter bought the majority of the stock on the day.

Davis said the branded sale concept will be rolled out at Colchester, Gloucester, Glasgow and Washington this year.
