Scania is celebrating 50 years in the UK with the launch of the Golden Griffin, a limited-edition V8 R-Series tractor unit.

Production will be limited to just 50, all of which will be individually numbered and painted in a gold livery.

West Midlands-based A Hingley Transport, which also owns the UK’s first Scania-Vabis LB76, will take delivery of the first Golden Griffin to come off the production line.

Ray Hingley, director at A Hingley Transport, said: “We will have a pair – number one 50 years ago and number one today.”

Hingley said the truck, which will be supplied by Keltruck, is expected to be delivered this summer.

All of the trucks will feature Streamline Topline cabs and will be powered by 580hp or 730hp engines. The first and last in the range will be rated at 730hp.

Operators will be able to specify multiple axle configurations, including 4×2, 6×2 or 6×4. Each vehicle will also be fitted with a kitchenette, a TV and DVD player, and three interior packages: Black Leather V8, Prestige and Driver.

The trucks will be available in two variations of the gold livery and will all come with a plaque bearing their number.

Martin Hay, Scania (Great Britain)’s UK truck sales director said: “Not since the Scania Centurion range, which was produced in 1991 to mark Scania’s centenary, have we developed such an exclusive offering as this limited-edition range of gold 50th anniversary trucks. I am confident that, as with the Centurions, demand will be exceptionally high, so the advice to anyone looking to secure one of these unique vehicles has to be to contact your dealer right away to avoid disappointment.”
