Lidl looking for subbies

Lidl is on the hunt for new subcontractors to help service the “exceptional growth” of its store network.

The budget supermarket chain told CM the business has been expanding dramatically across the UK, but particularly strong growth had been seen in three key areas: Runcorn, Cheshire; Enfield, north London; and Bridgend, Wales.

It therefore needs hauliers local to these three areas for long-term supermarket delivery work, who will join its fleet of more than 50 independent subcontractors who carry out 100% of road distribution work for Lidl in the UK.

Michael Bell, Lidl senior transport consultant, said: “It is consistent, contracted, relentless work and we need the right hauliers to further expand our share of the market and share our success by way of expansion. We only require long-term partners, as this is not seasonal work.”

He added that Lidl would consider any size of operator, including owner-drivers, as long as they were local to the three key growth areas.

“We offer contracted, constant work with opportunities to expand. Long-term rates backed by superb payment terms [weekly invoicing by BACS and 21-day payment], a diesel escalator and a variable cost system [a negotiated rate based on kilometres travelled] that gives exact payments are all included in the package,” Bell said.

Subbies will also receive a full driver induction. For more details, email
