DVSA sets date for HGV driving test changes

  • 20 March 2014
  • By Ashleigh Wight

Changes in HGV driving test rules to allow practical tests to be taken in automatic trucks will finally come in next month, the DVSA (formerly Vosa and the DSA) has confirmed.

The changes will come into effect on 10 April, following a delay in the legislative process. The DVSA had orignally expected them to be implemented in January.

From 10 April, learner drivers will be able to take their test in a truck with an automatic gearbox and receive manual entitlement, as long as they hold a manual licence for cars, lorries or buses.

Existing drivers will also be able to exchange their licence for one with manual entitlement.
