FairFuelUK delivers letter calling for 3ppl cut in fuel duty to Downing Street

FairFuelUK has delivered its letter calling for a 3ppl cut in fuel duty to 10 Downing Street, ahead of next week’s Budget.

Represenatives from the campaign’s backers including the Freight Transport Association, the Road Haulage Association, new recurit UKLPG, and the Association of Pallet Networks were on hand to show their support.

The event attracted cross party support, including Conservative MP for Harlow Robert Halfon. Rob Flello, Labour MP Labour for Stoke-on-Trent South and chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Freight Transport also attended.

Flello said: “The chancellor needs to put forward a budget which will help individuals and businesses. A cut in fuel duty would bring welcome relief to many who are struggling to with rising energy costs”

“The current fuel duty system is not sustainable and while a 3p cut in duty will help people immediately, the government must take radical action to reform the system for the future”.

Nigel Parkes, MD of Pallet-Track and APN’s representaive at the event, told “With fuel costs approaching 40% [of vehcile running costs] for most hauliers, the issue of high fuel duty remains perhaps the single most important issue operators face.” will have all the reaction to next week’s Budget on 19 March and will also be live tweeting at @Comm_Motor and @RTM_ChrisDruce
