Briggs Equipment donates £100,000 to The Prince’s Trust

Materials Handling services specialist Briggs Equipment is joining forces with youth charity The Prince’s Trust to give disadvantaged young people the practical and financial support they need to move into work, education or training, and has pledged £100,000 to support their vital work.

Between now and 2018, Briggs Equipment will donate £25,000 each year to The Trust, an investment that will see the company become a patron of the charity. The Prince’s Trust’s patrons and supporters are widely acknowledged and recognised by the charity’s president HRH The Prince of Wales as facilitators of change on a large scale.

Richard Close, Briggs Equipment’s Chief Executive Officer, says: “We are passionate about making a difference to young people and local communities whilst helping to develop the skills needed in today’s marketplace.

“Given our commitment to integrity, empowerment and personal accountability, our values are well-aligned with those of The Prince’s Trust and we are delighted that our donation impacts positively on the lives of those young people who need it most.”

In its role as a patron and in support of its donation to The Prince’s Trust, Briggs Equipment will take part in major projects each year. The initiative for 2014 is Million Makers, a national competition which challenges teams of aspiring entrepreneurs from all over the country to create a mini enterprise that will enable them to turn seed funding of £1,500 into a profit of £10,000. The aim is to collectively raise £1million for The Prince’s Trust.

All teams taking part in Million Makers will present their business plan to a Dragon’s Den-style panel to determine who will secure the initial capital investment before the competition gets underway in March. The final results will be announced in September.

The Briggs Equipment team will comprise of seven new Sales Development Executives located throughout the UK – who will be mentored and coached by senior managers as they set about improving their business acumen and hone their team working skills, creativity and negotiation expertise.

It is vital that we develop new sales talent that can not only appreciate our customers’ changing requirements, but also work closely with them to develop relevant, cost-effective solutions,” says Briggs Equipment’s Sales Director, Bill Goodwin.

“In an ever changing marketplace, competitive edge and a customer centric approach is essential to our new sales team’s involvement and Million Makers will help springboard a new generation of sales talent into our business.”

Those undertaking the Briggs Equipment’s Million Makers challenge will embark on a two-year development programme designed to equip them with in-depth knowledge about Materials Handling products, applications and solutions, business planning skills, high performing team dynamics and an understanding of buying behaviour and customer service. During the second year the trainees will have the opportunity to broaden their experience through working across the business’ departments – enhancing their commercial awareness and broadening their operational business. With ongoing mentoring and training Briggs Equipment is looking forward to developing new and exciting talent within its business.
