Colgate-Palmolive switches to CHEP Pallets in Romania

CHEP, the world’s leading provider of pallet and container pooling solutions, announced today that Colgate-Palmolive Company has signed a new business contract for the use of pallet pooling services in Romania, replacing white exchange pallets. The move is expected to result in a significant cost reduction and environmental savings.

Colgate-Palmolive Romania SRL Warehouse and Transportation Manager, Dan Dascalu, said: “We made the decision to move to CHEP in order to simplify our lives and reduce cost by putting the management of pallets in their hands. For us, the white pallet exchange system is difficult to manage and involves many hidden costs, such as the purchase of new equipment to replace losses. We are confident that CHEP offers a more efficient and cost-effective solution”.

Colgate-Palmolive is a $17.1 billion consumer products company that serves customers in over 200 countries and territories with 38,000 employees. Colgate-Palmolive global brands like Colgate, Mennen, Palmolive, Ajax, Softsoap and Hill’s Pet Nutrition are among the world’s most recognisable household names, trusted and relied upon by consumers everywhere. In Romania, where the subsidiary was formed 20 years ago pallet loads are distributed from the Colgate-Palmolive distribution centre located in Bucharest to nearly 60 locations throughout the country and Moldova.

Colgate-Palmolive Romania SRL Warehouse and Transportation Manager, Dan Dascalu, said: “Our experience in working with CHEP is very positive. By moving away from the pallet exchange system, we no longer have issues with pallet quality, and we are not getting complaints from our customers about product damage as a result of pallet failures. CHEP’s electronic ordering programme, Portfolio Plus™, has streamlined the management of orders and pallet flows. With CHEP, we’ve been able to build a better supply chain for cost savings and sustainability.”

He added: “The sustainability aspect of the CHEP pooling system is another important factor in the decision to switch to CHEP from white pallets. CHEP’s pooling business model is based on continuous reuse, recycling and waste reduction. Globally, Colgate-Palmolive is committed to increasing the sustainability of its products and conserving the earth’s finite resources.”

CHEP Country General Manager for Romania, Gabriel Andronescu, said: “The economy has started to pick up after a period of decline in Romania, and we expect to see a steady increase in the number of pallets being delivered to customers from CHEP Service Centres here. CHEP’s mission is to streamline our customers’ supply chains and provide them with an effective solution in terms of cost control and traceability”.

“Pallet pooling is expected to increase in Romania as more manufacturers, retailers and suppliers become aware of the benefits it offers. We truly appreciate the trust that Colgate-Palmolive places with us and we look forward to continuing our partnership in the future”.

CHEP is working with Colgate-Palmolive throughout Western Europe, including France, Italy, Spain and Germany.
