All 1,800 longer semi-trailer permits now awarded, says DfT

The Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed it has now allocated all of the 1,800 longer semi-trailer trial permits to road transport operators.

At the start of January, the DfT revealed it still had 300 allocations up for grabs.

However, the process, relaunched in September last year, is now complete, which, under the terms of the revised trial, should see all of the longer trailers in operation within the next six months.

A spokesman for the DfT confirmed that 80% of the total allocations had been for the longest variant, the 15.65m trailer suggesting only around 360 of the 14.6m longer semi-trailers will be trialled.

“We are very happy that the allocation process is now complete and look forward to studying the results from the trial in due course,” said the spokesman.
