Road Haulage Association appoints director for Scotland and Northern Ireland

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has appointed Martin Reid as its new director for Scotland and Northern Ireland, succeeding Phil Flanders, who retired at the end of last year.

Previously employed at Scottish electrical trade association SELECT, which had 1,250 member companies, Reid said: “The membership demographic was very similar to that of the RHA in that we had to look after the interests of sole traders and large national companies.  Although in some areas their priorities are very different, they are all looking to us for services that will improve cash flow and also give them a competitive advantage over non-RHA members.”

Reid also has experience in Scottish procurement matters and was regularly consulted on the recent Review of Public Procurement in Scotland.

RHA acting chief executive Nick Payne said: “Martin will be a real asset to the RHA in Scotland and Northern Ireland.  He appreciates that members are operating in very difficult trading times but welcomes the challenge of ensuring that the voice of the membership is heard in the corridors of power and as such is given the best opportunity to prosper in the market place.”

The association has also appointed a new area manager for Northern Ireland, Geraldine Quinn.

Payne added: “Like Martin, Geraldine also is no stranger to the industry and part of her work will be supporting the RHA’s trainers, health and safety specialists and compliance officers who are already helping the association’s members in Northern Ireland with their requirements from contracts of employment to compliance and the complete Drivers CPC solution.”
