An investigation has been launched following the death of an HGV driver who was trapped between two lorries at Toyota’s Burnaston, Derbyshire factory.

The 56-year-old male driver from Suffolk, who has not yet been formally named, died at the site after the incident in the early hours of 22 January.

A police spokesman said: “Officers were called to the factory in Burnaston at 12.40am today to a report of a man trapped between two lorries.

“The investigation is at an early stage but there don’t appear to be any suspicious circumstances. His family have been informed.”

Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK (TMUK) released a statement saying it extended its condolences to the driver’s family and friends:

“It is with great regret we can confirm that there was a severe incident at TMUK Burnaston last night which unfortunately resulted in a lorry driver receiving serious injuries sadly resulting in his death.

“We are not able to give any details but we are supporting the authorities with their enquiries.”

An HSE spokesman confirmed that the man was from Suffolk and that it received a report at 1.30am: “We are aware of the incident and have made initial inquiries alongside Derbyshire police,” he added.
