Maiden’s of Telford increases fleet as business soars

Shropshire-based Maiden’s of Telford has added 16 MAN trucks to its fleet and plans to double its warehouse capacity this year as business confidence continues to soar.

Maiden’s, which covers the SY postcode for Palletforce, moved to its current headquarters at Deer Park Court, Donnington Wood, in 2010.

However, with business booming in the area, MD John Maiden plans to expand. “Businesses here are very optimistic about 2014. The local market is buoyant,” said Maiden.

The company has 40,000ft2 of warehousing space that it intends to double, having identified a suitable site near its home. “Like everyone, we took stock during the past few years,” said Maiden. “However, we’ve been very fortunate to pick up additional work more recently.”

Maiden said the last nine months of 2013 were good for the business, with plenty of activity in the area – such as the arrival of a Jaguar Land Rover engine plant near Telford.

Maiden’s – which has a staff of 90 and operates in the agricultural, retail and food and drink sectors – won new contracts last year, including some in the automotive sector. It is aiming for a £10m turnover this year.

The company, which operates its own groupage system and handles about 600 pallets a day, completed delivery of a batch of 16 MAN Euro-5 TGXs late last year to meet demand and contracts.

The trucks, supplied by the Aquila Group on RM packages, are replacements and additions to its fleet, which comprises 65 vehicles and 130 trailers. Maiden said it is likely he would add more trucks this year. He also expects to trial a Euro-6 MAN from April, having already put a Euro-6 Scania through its paces.
