EyeNut lights the way for commercial premises

Lighting is one area in which substantial savings can be easily realised in all types of commercial buildings. Harvard Engineering’s EyeNut offers a comprehensive monitoring and control system for indoor lighting designed to save energy, reduce costs and give unrivalled control to building managers. Using the latest wireless technology it can be fitted as part of a building’s upgrade to LED lighting or retrofitted to an existing lighting system.

Many commercial operations are housed in buildings more than 20 years old; built when energy efficiency was not the priority it is today. A typical warehouse may have hundreds, if not thousands, of lighting fixtures, often operating at full light intensity, irrespective of the tasks being performed in each area. By seizing control of indoor lighting and utilising the latest design innovations in wireless technology, building managers are able to monitor energy consumption and implement a full range of energy saving strategies, from dimming to scene setting, for minute-by-minute control and longer-term action plans.

Through analysing data gathered, EyeNut can create a sophisticated ‘heat map’ to give a comprehensive energy consumption overview and indicate precisely the best way to optimise light output, to reduce energy consumption, and the associated carbon emissions, whilst ensuring the correct light intensity for each task, day and night. Light can be controlled through individual luminaires and groups of lights, by room, zone, building, time of day and activity.

EyeNut is also easy to commission as it eliminates the need for re-wiring. This helps to reduce installation costs and ensures that business operations are not disrupted. The advanced wireless technology can be operated remotely, allowing for the exciting possibility of multiple site management from a single hub using the easy-to-use Graphic User Interface (GUI) accessed via the internet. The intuitive GUI also gives users the flexibility to handle diverse and complex situations, allowing unparalleled control at the same time as considerably cutting maintenance costs.

Of all the controllable lighting sold in Europe today, 75% is only being controlled through the use of primitive on/off switches. As lighting accounts for 41% of all electricity used and is the highest single contributor to commercial consumption in the UK there is huge potential for businesses to reduce carbon emissions and make significant savings. Developed and manufactured by Yorkshire-based Harvard Engineering, EyeNut is an ingenious monitoring and control system set to revolutionise the indoor lighting market.
