ECO Stars up and running in Dundee

Dundee operators can now sign up to ECO Stars after it become the 11th UK city to introduce the free fleet recognition scheme that can shave thousands off a company’s bottom line.

The initiative encourages operators to improve efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and their fleet emissions in order to boost local transport-related air quality.

New ECO Stars members are given a one to five star rating, depending on their efficiency, and are provided with a report explaining how to improve their fleet performance.

ECO Stars said that companies could achieve cost savings of around £2,300 per vehicle by implementing their recommendations.

Currently, 20,000 LGVs, vans, coaches and buses belonging to 300 members are covered by the scheme.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh-based Pollock (Scotrans) has expanded its ECO Stars membership by signing up to schemes in Warrington and South Yorkshire after achieving a 5-star status north of the border.

“We are always looking to improve our fuel efficiency and ECO Stars helps to focus our efforts,” said operations manager Mark Jackson. “We also continue to invest in new vehicles and we were the first haulier in Scotland to get a Daf Euro 6 vehicle.
