TC Aitken rejects O-licence application

Traffic commissioner (TC) for Scotland Joan Aitken (pictured) has rejected an O-licence application from Cumbernauld-based Food and Drink Logistics after its director failed to mention his involvement with a liquidated firm.

Following a public inquiry in Edinburgh, the TC refused the application and disqualified its director Allan Menzies from acting as a transport manager indefinitely. Menzies had been sequestrated since 2007 and was involved in a firm, Chilli Express (Scotland), that entered liquidation in 2010.

However, these matters were not disclosed on the Food and Drink Logistics application form.

Aitken also revoked the O-licence held by his daughter Heather, trading as Thermo Logistics, based in Bellshill. The TC concluded that Heather Menzies had “engaged with her father and others in a manipulation and abuse of the operator licensing system”, and disqualified her for four years.
