No planned Humber Bridge toll increases

  • By Ashleigh Wight

The Humber Bridge Board has assured operators that there are no planned toll increases to use the bridge, despite the passing of a bill to give it more control over setting the tolls.

Peter Hill, general manager and bridgemaster for the Humber Bridge, told Commercialmotor.com the toll for LGVs will not change when the Humber Bridge Act 2013 becomes active on 15 January.

He said hauliers may benefit from the planned introduction of an electronic tolling system later in 2014, which will allow fleet operators to keep track and pay for all their vehicles’ crossings from one place.

Work on introducing the new system is expected to begin in July, with completion set for winter 2014.

The toll for LGVs was cut from £20.30 to £12 in April 2012, triggering an 11% increase in the number of trucks using the bridge.
