Police call for witnesses after theft of Currie European trailer

Police are appealing for witnesses after a trailer full of alcohol worth £140,000 was stolen from Currie European’s Irongray Road site in Dumfries at around 5.30pm on Monday 2 December.

A police spokesman told that in the “obviously pre-planned” incident, a white tractor unit was driven into the yard and connected to the trailer, which was filled largely with Glen’s Vodka as well as small quantities of other spirits, before being driven away.

Police want to hear from anyone who saw the incident or noticed anything suspicious around the site in the days leading up to it, as well as anybody who has had a white tractive unit stolen recently.

The incident followed a similar attempt at Currie European’s Heathhall site in September, which was thwarted when the stolen tractor unit suffered a puncture as it was being driven away and was abandoned. Police believe the same gang may have been behind both incidents.

Currie European MD Stephen Turner told CM an immediate internal review was being carried out and that there had been “more to it” than simply driving into the yard and making off with the trailer. “Confidential information and security procedures were known to the criminals which is particularly distressing,” he said.

Anyone with information should call 101 and ask for Police Scotland.
